Functions of ward meeting as per Section 6 of Local Government (Union Council) Act 2009
Powers and functions of ward meetings
Subject to the provisions of this Act and in the manner prescribed, the ward council shall have the following powers,
functions and rights, namely:⎯
(a) providing assistance in the collection and arrangement of all information necessary for the formulation of the
development plan of the Union Parishad;
(b) preparation of project proposals at ward level and prioritization of implementable schemes and development programmes;
(c) prepare and hand over to the Union Parishad the final priority list of the beneficiaries of various government programs
based on the prescribed criteria;
(d) to provide all kinds of assistance locally necessary for the effective implementation of development projects;
(e) encouraging and assisting in the implementation of local development activities and service activities on a voluntary basis;
(f) to advise the Parishad for determining the location or area of street lights, safe water sources and other public interest units,
irrigation facilities and other public welfare projects;
(g) creating public awareness about cleanliness, environment conservation, tree planting, prevention of environmental
pollution, corruption and other social evils;
(h) To create unity and harmony among the people of different classes and professions of the ward, to build organizations and
to organize various sports and cultural events;
(j) To motivate, supervise and provide assistance to the beneficiary classes or groups involved in various
developmental activities of the ward;
(j) verifying the list of persons covered by various welfare programs of the Government (eg, old-age allowance, subsidy, etc.);
(k) storage of various information related to estimates of works to be implemented in different areas of the ward;
(l) providing detailed information on the work and services to be performed;
(d) to be informed of the rationales for the decisions taken by the Parishad in matters relating to the ward;
(d) To review the progress of implementation of the decisions taken by the Ward Sabha and to inquire into the reasons for
non-implementation of any decision;
(n) Active cooperation in public health activities, especially prevention of various diseases and family planning activities
